How-to retreat anywhere on any budget, including your own home.

Read Time: 2.5 - 3 min

Intention: Reduce Stress, Disconnect & Rejuvenate

What is a retreat?

In essence, it's a chance to reconnect with yourself, others, and

nature.

While you can create a retreat at home, stepping away from daily demands—emails, chores, relationships—provides a greater opportunity to clear the static and truly hear yourself.

By choosing to retreat, you're affirming that you are the designer of your own life. It’s a conscious decision to step back and reconnect with your path.

Committing to a retreat means understanding what you need and becoming open to receiving it.

Whether it’s stillness, movement, silence, nature, or guidance with a decision, a retreat helps you find your inner voice amidst the noise. You'll return rejuvenated and clear.

Nature plays a crucial role in retreats.

A study from the Journal of Environmental Psychology shows that viewing water for just 1 minute and 40 seconds reduces blood pressure and heart rate. It’s natural mind and body medicine!

Create Your Own Retreat at Home

We understand that sometimes you can't get away, but that doesn't mean you can't experience the benefits of a retreat right where you are. Here are some tips to create a mini-retreat in the comfort of your own home:

  1. Set the Scene: Choose a quiet space in your home where you can be undisturbed. Light some candles, play calming music, and diffuse essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus.

  2. Disconnect: Turn off your phone, computer, and any other distractions. Let family members or housemates know that you'll be taking some time for yourself.

  3. Mindful Movement: Begin with a gentle yoga session. Find guided videos online or move in a way that feels good to you. Focus on your breath and how your body feels.

  4. Meditation: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back. You can also use a guided meditation app.

  5. Journaling: Reflect on your thoughts and feelings by writing in a journal. Consider prompts like "What am I grateful for?" or "What do I need to let go of?"

  6. Nature Connection: Spend some time outside. Whether it’s a walk in your backyard or a visit to a nearby park, connecting with nature can be grounding.

  7. Nourishing Food: Prepare a healthy, delicious meal. Eat mindfully, savoring each bite and appreciating the nourishment.

  8. Rest and Reflect: End with some quiet time. Lie down, read a book, or simply rest. Reflect on the experience and how you feel.

Lastly, retreats foster a sense of community.

As Priya Parker states in The Art of Gathering, "There are so many good reasons for coming together that we often don't know precisely why we are doing so." Our retreats are designed with a clear purpose: rejuvenation and vitality. The connections you make and the shared experiences create something truly special.
